Opening of International Entry-Exit Checkpoints between Myanmar and India.

 

The landmark Land Border Crossing Agreement between India and Myanmar signed on the 11 May 2018 has been brought into effect with the simultaneous opening of international entry-exit checkpoints at the Tamu – Moreh and the Rhikhawdar – Zowkhawtar border between Myanmar and India.

 

Myanmar’s delegation for the ceremony this morning at Tamu was led by U Aye Lwin, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population, Government of Myanmar while the Indian side was led by Dr. Suhel Akhtar, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Manipur, India.

 

Following the opening ceremony at the India-Myanmar Friendship Bridge, the Myanmar delegation was given a tour of the Integrated Check Post (ICP) facilities in Moreh, India.

 

Myanmar’s delegation for the ceremony this morning at Rihkhawdar was led by H.E. U Lalai Lian Luai, Chief Minister of Chin State, Government of Myanmar while the Indian side was led by Shri Pu H Rohluna, Minister of Commerce and Industries, Government of Mizoram. Chief Minister of Chin State, Myanmar thanked External Affairs Minister Smt. Sushma Swaraj for opening this border posts. This was followed by a tour of the immigration check post at Rihkhawdar.

 

The opening of these checkposts will facilitate travel on both sides as people holding passports and a valid visa, will be allowed to exit and enter through these border check posts.
