OVERSEAS CITIZENSHIP OF INDIA(OCI) CARD

PIO CARD SCHEME IS DISCONTINUED W.E.F. 9.1.2015

MERGER OF PIO INTO OCI SCHEME 

ALL PIO CARDS ISSUED TILL 9 JANUARY 2015 WILL BE DEEMED AS OCI CARDS and are valid  for lifetime. PIO card holders can
visit the Embassy to get their PIO cards stamped 'Valid for Lifetime;. The PIO card holders can also opt for OCI cards gradually for which one needs to apply online on below mentioned MHA Link.

An OCI card is a life long visa for India with no restrictions on number of visits, duration of stay and with exemption from any registration formalities. It also offers a range of economic, financial and educational benefits on par with Non Resident Indians(NRI) (for details please see brochure-OCI)

Important Notice for OCI Applicants 

ELIGIBLITY FOR OCI CARD

A person is entitled for a OCI card if :

i)Who is a citizen of another country

ii) He/She or either of his/her parents/grand parents/great grand parents was a citizen of India at the time of, or any time after commencement of Constitution(26.01.1950)


ii) He/She is a spouse of foreign origin of a citizen of India or an OCI card holder and whose marriage is registered and submitted for a continuous period of not less than two years.
 

APPLICATION

Application for registration of OCI can be made online at Govt of India website https://passport.gov.in/oci/

Form'A' is filled online and Form'B' is filled manually. Both the forms alongwith required documents are to be submitted at Embassy's Consular Division (for details-see Brochure-OCI

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR ISSUE OF OCI CARD

1. Completed Application forms('A' & 'B') with four color photograph of size 2" x 2" (80% coverage of face) & light color background(not white)

2 Proof of present citizenship(Myanmar Passport)

3 Proof of India Citizenship of either applicant, parent, grandparent, or great grandparents, or spouse. Proof of Indian citizenship of  one person from these categories is sufficient. Indian passport is the most reliable proof of citizenship

4 Evidence of relationship with the parent/grand parent or person, if their Indian Origin is claimed as basis for grant of OCI Card

5 Application Fee of US$ 275/- for each applicant. US$ 25 for each PIO Card Holder, US$ 145 for each minor PIO Card Holder

VALIDITY OF AN OCI CARD

An OCI Card is valid life long subject to the condition that the OCI Card Holder possess a valid Myanmar passport.

 FACILIITIES ENJOYED BY OCI CARD HOLDERS IN INDIA

1 An OCI card holder shall not require a separate visa to visit India

2 An OCI card holder is allowed to visit India any number of times, stay for any duration without registration with FRRO.

3 All OCI Card holders shall enjoy parity with NRIS in  all facilities available to them in economics, financial, educational, cultural and other areas excpet acquiring agriculture or plantation properties.
